Camp Vincent 2010 – Holding Their Hope in Our HandsIn July Youth SVP members from across the country came to Ampleforth in Yorkshire for the annual Camp Vincent. Camp Vincent was packed full of various activities, giving Youth SVP members the chance to think about their faith in group workshops, discussions and youth liturgy. The theme of the camp was “Holding their Hope in Our Hands”. The young participants were invited to reflect upon how they could help people through their Youth SVP volunteering and through their everyday life. Camp was a great success, to read a report and see some photos please click here. |

350th Anniversary of Saint Vincent de PaulThis coming year Youth SVP is celebrating the 350th anniversary of the death of Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660). The patron of our society, Saint Vincent de Paul was born poor and in the beginning he longed for a life of wealth. This was why he first became a priest! Later, however, he suffered a difficult spiritual crisis that resulted in a desire to help people in need. Vincent then pledged his life to the sick and insane, orphans and old people, beggars and the starving, prisoners and galley slaves. There was no form of poverty - physical, emotional or spiritual - which he did not try to make easier for other people. Saint Vincent is a powerful role model Saint Vincent de Paul’s anniversary, Youth SVP members are encouraged to get involved in the wide variety of events that are taking place. Click here to find out more details about the anniversary, and the events that will occur throughout 2010. Also, don’t miss out on the fantastic art competition. |

Greetings from RobLet me introduce myself – my name’s Rob and I’m the new National Youth Development Officer, taking over from Paul Lever. I was lucky enough to be one of the people to receive a talk from Paul during my time at Bath University. As a result, I helped set up the University’s SVP group and was president for three years. Yep, I was a Youth SVP member myself, and have come up through the ranks! After doing a few different jobs since leaving Bath (working for various youth charities in London and Oxford, and doing work in Mongolia and Ethiopia), I’m really delighted to be able to return to the SVP, and be part of helping give other people the chance to have the same positive experiences that I had. I’m really excited about having the chance to work with so many of you in the coming weeks. It’s always great to hear about the fantastic things that the Youth SVP membership does. If you ever need any advice or want some more Youth SVP resources then please feel free to contact me, I’ll be happy to help. |
