Oaklands Comprehensive School, Waterlooville
The Youth SVP group
consists of a number of students from Years 7, 8 and 9 who
come together voluntarily once a week to do various activities
in the community including reading at St. Peter’s primary
school, visiting the elderly and serving tea and cakes at
Borrow Day Centre in Cowplain.
In December we went to
Borrow Day Centre to hold a Christmas party. A special treat
was in store for the people awaiting our arrival. David
Caswell, our group adviser, arranged for one of the student’s
mothers and her singing group to accompany us in our
festivities. As well as singing we provided snacks, made tea
and also another parent ran a tombola stall. To finish off we
played bingo whilst some of us tidied and washed up!
Many people enjoyed
the get-together and when we went back to the centre this week
the party was the main topic of conversation among the
regulars! Many favourable comments were made, for example: “It
was very kind of Oaklands children to come and put on this
fantastic party. We were all entertained and it made a nice
change. We are also very grateful for the nice gifts we
received and all the time spent on organising the party”.
